Washington, D.C. - Rep. Van Epps (TN-07) participated in a Science, Space, and Technology (SST) Committee hearing titled “Innovation in Disaster Prevention: Advancing Technology for Prediction and Response.”

“Thank you, Mr. Chairman, and thank you to our witnesses for being here today. 

I’m grateful for the work the Chairman and this committee have done to prioritize natural disaster preparedness and response. 

In 2023, Middle Tennessee was hit by an EF-3 tornado, resulting in 4 fatalities and significant damage. In 2021, deadly flash floods struck Humphreys County, tragically killing 20. 

When a catastrophic weather event strikes, the lives of Americans can change dramatically – I've seen it firsthand in Tennessee working in the State Government. That’s why we must use the best technology at our disposal to equip first responders to appropriately prepare and respond to these natural disasters.”
