Stewart County Plays A Vital Role In Our Region’s Energy, Economy, And Heritage!
Hello, it’s Congressman Matt Van Epps. I represent Tennessee’s Seventh Congressional District! Since coming to Congress, I have had the privilege of spending some time in Stewart County!
I have been active on the ground in Stewart County, starting the year by working with local officials, law enforcement, and first responders to ensure a full recovery from Winter Storm Fern. Beyond emergency response, I celebrated local excellence at Stewart County High School, where I was invited to speak at the ceremony honoring Ethan Smith, one of my Service Academy nominees, for his appointment to West Point. I also visited with the team at Dover Family Pharmacy to discuss the vital role local pharmacists play in rural healthcare. Find out more about the visits here and here.
I also recently toured Tennessee Valley Authority's (TVA) Cumberland Fossil Plant, highlighting the vital role the facility plays in Tennessee’s economy. This plant provides a steady stream of power to more than 1.4 million homes, and that should be applauded.
“TVA appreciates Congressman Van Epp’s interest in our operations at Cumberland Fossil Plant. Facilities like Cumberland—and, importantly, the men and women who keep it safely running—play a critical role in meeting the Tennessee Valley’s growing energy needs and providing around‑the‑clock reliability. Coal continues to be an important part of TVA’s diverse generation portfolio, as it is key to maintaining the energy resilience and stability that millions of people and thousands of businesses across our region depend on every day.” -TVA Senior State Director of Government & Community Relations Bert Robinson
From historic Iron Furnace Ruins and Civil War sites to plenty of camping and fishing—Stewart County is a great place to bring your family for a visit. You might even catch a glimpse of a bald eagle!
